KOYEKOLA ACADEMY: Empowering Teachers, Transforming Congo

THE PROBLEM

The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing major challenges in the education sector. Here are some alarming figures:

  1. By 2050, the population of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is expected to reach 218 million. Forty-eight percent of this population will be under 20 years old—about 105 million additional young people over the next 25 years. Source
  2. Only 17.4% of teachers in secondary schools in the DRC are qualified, meaning they have formally studied pedagogy and the didactics of their subjects in accredited universities. Source
  3. Today, in the DRC, 81.6% of pupils finishing primary school are below the proficiency threshold in mathematics. Source

THE SOLUTION

KOYEKOLA ACADEMY complements existing institutions by offering:

  1. TRAINING: to develop the teaching, digital, and entrepreneurial skills of Congolese teachers.
  2. SUPPORT : personalized guidance through coaching and mentorship, tailored to each teacher’s growth.
  3. PLATFORM: A digital space to access resources, share knowledge, and build meaningful career pathways.

OBJECTIVES AND IMPACT

  1. Train 14,500 teachers across the country between 2026 and 2030.
  2. Provide flexible, context-adapted continuous professional development.
  3. Improve student performance by 20% in pilot schools.
  4. Restore teachers’ pride, motivation, and professional skills.
